The women and children of the world are smiling
introduced by Roberto SatolliThere is some good news about health around the world: fewer women die in childbirth and the number of babies dying has also fallen. In 2015 no less than 6 million children under the age of 5 still died, but this is nevertheless half the number in 1990. The same is true for women giving birth, with deaths falling from half a million to 300 thousand. The overall numbers are still frightening, but the tangible results show that the injustice of a life that ends just as it is about to begin can be corrected, thanks to a global strategy calling on countries to implement concrete initiatives. One of the people behind this strategy is an Italian doctor, Flavia Bustreo, nominated to head the World Health Organisation in the next few years.
