Silvio Garattini

A doctor and freelance lecturer in chemotherapy and pharmacology, he was first an assistant and then lecturer at the University of Milan’s Institute of Pharmacology until 1962. In 1963 he founded the Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche "Mario Negri" and since then he has been its Director. He is currently a member of the Italian National Health Council and the National Bioethics Committee. He has received numerous prizes and awards for his scientific studies and dissemination activities. He is the author of many hundreds of scientific papers published in national and international magazines, and many books in the field of pharmacology, including: Gli analgesici oppioidi (with O. Corli), Pacini (2014); Fa bene o fa male? Salute, ricerca e farmaci: tutto quello che bisogna sapere, Sperling & Kupfer (2013); Interazioni tra farmaci in oncologia.
