Walter Ricciardi

Ordinary Professor of Hygiene and Director of the Specialist School of Hygiene and Preventive Medicine at the “A. Gemelli” Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome, in August 2015 he was nominated President of the Istituto Italiano Superiore di Sanità, where he was Commissioner from July 2014 to July 2015. He is a Past President of EUPHA. In Italy he was a member of the National Health Council in the period 2003-2006, and was nominated President of the Public Health Section of the Council by the Minister of Health from 2010 to 2014. In December 2015 he was nominated Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Policy, Governance and Leadership set up at the Istituto di Sanità Pubblica, Faculty of Medicine, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome. He is editor of the “European Journal of Public Health” and the Oxford Handbook of Public Health Practice, and founder of the magazine “Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health”. He is the author of E-patient e social media (with L. Affinito), Il Pensiero Scientifico (2016); La tempesta perfetta. Il possibile naufragio del SSN: come evitarlo (with V. Atella, C. Cricelli and F. Serra), Vita e Pensiero (2015); he is co-author of Igiene per le professioni sanitarie, Idelson-Gnocchi (2014).
